When I was 11 years old, I made a list of everything I wanted to be when I grew up. It changed almost weekly. It ranged from an astronaut to a lion tamer, to a mountain climber to a stewardess, my imagination was limitless. I always wanted to be something exciting! By the time I was 13, I knew there was only one way to make all my dreams a reality...to become a writer. Thus began my literary journey.....
REJECTION #1
As an avid reader of Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazines, I figured these were the logical first choices to submit my writing to. My first "professional” attempt was a short story titled "THE CAT KILLER." dah dah daaah! I submitted it to Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine as soon as it left my trusty blue Smith-Corona typewriter. They rejected it even faster! I cried for two days while clutching that tiny slip of paper. But it also gave me a sense of belonging. Someone in the "literary" world had actually touched my terrible, unprofessional, non-formatted story AND sent me a rejection slip! At the age of 14, I WAS A WRITER!visualizza meno
