RUFUS OKOTORE graduated B .Sc ( Hons. ) degree in Biochemistry from the
University of Ibadan , Ibadan , Nigeria in 1965. He obtained M.Sc. (Biochemistry) and

University of Ibadan , Ibadan , Nigeria in 1965. He obtained M.Sc. (Biochemistry) and
the PhD. degree in Biochemistry from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia,
Canada. , 1968 and 1971 respectively.
Started his academic career as Lecturer II (Biochemistry) , Department of Biological
Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, Lagos , Nigeria in 1972. He
was appointed Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry , College of
Medicine, University of Lagos , in 1978, and then to the Chair of Biochemistry in
the same College of Medicine, University of Lagos, in 1983.
The major research areas include Protein Chemistry, Enzymology, Proteoglyconjugates
and Lectinology in which he has published many scientifi c papers
in reputable international journals. In particular, he has taught Enzymology
as specialized topic/course both to the B.Sc. (Hons.) degree and postgraduate
students. He has authored a book,” Basic Separation Techniques in Biochemistry”.
He was a Visiting Scientist to the University of California, Davis. California, USA.
(Institute of Marine Resources),1978/1979 ;University of Cologne ,( Department
of Immunobiology) Koln.Germany,1980/1981; and the Max- Planck’s Institute of
Immunobiology , Freiburg, Germany, 1982/3. He is a member of many learned
scientifi c societies which include Nigerian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology, Biochemical Society of Great Britain, Science Associations of Nigeria, and
the New York Academy of Sciences. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Analysts
