This girl-child was later to become a professor of library and information management, the first woman to attain such a height in Akwa Ibom State.
Felicia Edu-Uwem Etim, a professor of library and information management, is the current university librarian, University of Uyo, Nigeria. In 2005, she became the first female from Akwa Ibom State to become a professor of library and information science. Professor Felicia was born in Ibong Ikot Akan in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, to Engr. and Mrs. Sunday Thomas Umoh on March 17, 1960. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 1983, master’s degree in library science (MLS) in 1986, and a PhD in information science in 1993, all from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She was the immediate past chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Library Board (2003–2007) and was the chairman, Akwa Ibom State Library Association from 2003 to 2010. She is the president and founder, Association of Educationists and Information Managers (ASSEIMA) from 1997 to date. Professor Felicia Etim is editor-in-chief of two professional journals, author of four books, and has published sixty articles in national and international journals. Her areas of interest are information user studies, information literacy, and information technologies.
She has practiced librarianship for thirty years and has been involved in the education and training of librarians for the same period of her professional experience. Professor Felicia Etim is certified by the Librarians’ Registration Council (LRCN) and is a fellow of the Nigerian Library Association (FNLA). She is also affiliated to the American Library Association (ALA) and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) United Kingdom. She is the principal consultant to Akwa Ibom State E-Library project. She was the chief adviser to a one-time wife of governor of Akwa Ibom State, on the Family Support Programme (1995–1998) and is now the chief adviser to the governor of Akwa Ibom State on Library Development and Services. She is a member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutes (IFLA).
