In 1993 when the Congo government stopped paying teachers, Safi knew that if she wanted to continue her education, she would have to pay for it herself. After winning a public speaking contest for quoting Bible verses, she was offered a part time job which kick-started her school fees fund. Coupled with starting her own small business selling salt, she was able to pay for her education, even though she was the only girl in the class.
In her early 20’s Safi lived as a refugee in a Tanzanian refugee camp where she volunteered 14 hours per day Monday to Friday to allow her time to continue her studies.
Throughout these challenging and difficult periods Safi learned that her life circumstances could not take away the person who she really was. She turned her pain into glory and learned how to stand firm like a rock.visualizza meno
