He went to PS 244, then Brooklyn Technical High School, and after that Columbia where he was an English major. After grad school he taught at Queens College and subsequently became an Assistant Dean at the City University of New York and Associate Dean at New York University. After his first book was published—Second-Best, a history of America’s community colleges--he was recruited by the Ford Foundation where he became Senior Director for Education, Media, Arts, and Culture. In recent years he has contributed to a number of blogs, including the Daily Kos and his own Behind the New York Times, where a number of the stories in Obama, Oy Vey first appeared.visualizza meno
