he Bürgenstock Resort was a Swiss spa that’s been on the ‘to visit list’ for some time. At 500 metres above sea level overlooking Lake Lucerne in Switzerland this is undoubtedly one magnificent resort. Although the resort is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year (of the original Grand Hotel which opened in 1873) the modern centre piece of the resort is the Bürgenstock Hotel which opened in 2017 after an investment of about $US 1 billion from Qatar. This hotel, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, has two parts - the Contemporary Wing and the now-renamed Heritage Wing (which was the Palace Hotel). The Alpine Spa, a 10,000 sq m (about 110,000 sq ft) facility across three floors is the jewel in the crown. The Bürgenstock Resort (part of the Bürgenstock Collection of four hotels) also includes the Waldhotel, a Medical and Health facility next door, with its own spa.
