The need to live in beautiful spaces

‘Architecture and design bring beauty into everyday life. There is so much interest in both architecture and design because we all need to live not just in a functional space, but one that is authentically beautiful’. So says the designer Matteo Nunziati, who recently designed the outdoor furniture shown by Flou at the latest Milan Design Week. July’s issue of presents a large farmhouse and three villas that have these objectives. Architect Emanuela Esposito has combined two old farmhouses in the Tuscan Maremma, transforming them into her buen ritiro, but also an oasis where she can host friends. The houses seem to float on water, and thanks to large windows, are in dialogue with the lush nature. Then, at the heart of the Costa Brava, Spanish interior designer Susanna Cots has renovated a villa, creating an oasis of calm and serenity with timeless furnishings and colours harking back to nature, perfect for slowing down the rhythm of everyday life. Architect William Hefner has built a villa in a canyon surrounded by woodland near Los Angeles. A home
