Cronaca, testimonianze, vicende di ambedue le parti belligeranti. Mappe del settore sono state realizzate appositamente per descrivere le posizioni e le azioni che si sono susseguite dal 1915 al 1917, anno in cui questa parte del fronte fu abbandonata in conseguenza degli eventi di Caporetto. Il testo è inoltre arricchito da schede sull’uniformologia, sugli armamenti leggeri e pesanti e sulla faleristica commemorativa dei reparti impiegati. Sono infine riportati, caso unico nella letteratura del genere, l'intero elenco dei caduti italiani e tutti i nominativi, incluse le motivazioni, dei decorati al valore.

    The first Clements book I ever read, this was a great story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was comepletely taken with the idea of a teacher who uses her own brilliant mind motivate an otherwise difficult child. It worked and I have to say I was very impressed with the ending. Clements did an excellant job wrapping this up. On the whole, this was a wonderful book.

    Frindle by Andrew Clements is a fast moving book that you can read in a day. I loved this book and even laughed out loud at some of Nick’s antics. He would be a blast to have in class, but I am not sure that all the teachers out there would enjoy it in quite the same way. Although Nick likes to get into a little trouble, he really just likes to have a good time. I thought he was easy to relate to as the book progressed because he is smart and has some very imaginative ideas. Frindle is a book that can be enjoyed by boys and girls from third grade through sixth grade. I think older kids and adults may find this book to be entertaining, especially if they like the English language and vocabulary words. I am amazed at how the author created such a unique term! I liked that the book was full of surprises all the way up until the end. The drawings that were included throughout the book also helped to make the story come to life and I had a great time examining them. Pick up this book and you will not be disappointed!

    I had never heard of Frindle despite it being an award-winning book (2016 Phoenix Award) with many admirers (teachers, librarians, and children alike). Written by Andrew Clements with illustrations by Brian Selznick, this is the story of Nick Allen who is the premier 'idea man' of the 5th grade...until he meets Mrs. Granger. It's then that Nick's place among his peers is questioned as she challenges him to think more creatively than ever before. The humor, inventiveness, determination, and perspicacity of our main characters makes this an instant favorite for all ages. This is a super fast read (I read it in an afternoon commute in its entirety and I'm not a particularly fast reader.) and I think it would be a great one for reluctant readers especially if you're reading with them at home. Bonus: It's educational without ever really making that a big thing which is the perfect recipe for this age group especially if they're reluctant readers. *hint hint* This book is full of heart and more than a few surprises (this might give the little ones in your life some especially mischievous ideas) which means it gets a 10/10 from me. XD

    Nick Allen was not, by his own admission, one of the bad kids, the good kids, or the smart kids. He was entirely himself, an individual with a keen sense of humor and an original mind. Disinclined toward doing lots of work, he tangled with his fifth-grade Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Granger, and found himself researching dictionaries, and the origins of words. Taking to heart the idea that meaning is created by all of a language's speakers, he creates a new word for pen - 'frindle' - that soon catches on at his school. But is he ready for the conflict with Mrs. Granger and other authority figures that this will ignite...?First published in 1996, and a perennial favorite since then, Frindle is an immensely engaging story, one that is both humorous and heartwarming, and one that encourages young readers to think about the power of words, and of the speaker's role in using (or creating) them. I imagine that quite a few budding linguists got their start with Andrew Clements' book. Nick is an appealing character, a real boy with plenty of good qualities but some weaknesses as well. I thought the author's depiction of his withdrawal into himself, after achieving fame - his timidity, upon discovering his own power - was quite perceptive. I also thought the depiction of Mrs. Granger was spot on - I too have known people who seem quite daunting, but whose respect can be won through honest and principles opposition, rather than thoughtless capitulation. Recommended to children - early chapter-book range, I would say - looking for fun and thought-provoking school stories.

    I love this story! This is one of my favorites and has been since I was a kid! I like the writing and the plot of the story. The writing is paced very well and engages the reader by making it relatable. The main character, Nicholas, is creative and is the class clown but none of his pranks harm anyone and are more appropriate than others. Many students can relate him to themselves or someone in their class. Nicholas learns about words and decides to create his own. This will encourage the reader to be creative and invent their own words. The message in this story is the power of words and how far information can travel. Especially now in today's world, word can travel fast through the use of internet.

    Nick Allen is a fifth grader who has lots of big ideas. He is also a clever boy, always good at distracting teachers and killing time, and a genius at preventing them from assigning homework. He's a little concerned about meeting his fifth-grade English teacher, Mrs. Granger, who is known for her no-nonsense and strict demeanor. When they first meet the battle of wills begin. Nick tries to use his signature move of asking a last minute question that will derail homework assigning, and Mrs. Granger responds by asking Nick to research the topic and write an essay on it.

    Did you ever question why something is called what it is? Nick here does. He decides a pen is not a pen, but a Frindle. Apparently, everyone likes the idea and it catches quick. Unrealistically quick, but this is a middle grade book so taking that in stride.

    I loved his teacher Mrs. Granger. She lets nothing slip past her and if you try, you'll regret it! She and Nick push each other but it also challenges one another in good ways. Although I do wish she has a slightly better attitude toward the outcome of the plan she unwittingly unleashed. Especially when she starts making the students write sentences. And, on a side note, apparently writing sentences isn't very common anymore. My brothers have nod idea what that is in school. So it might seem a bit dated now to some youth.

    This story makes you stop and think but is also lighthearted and amusing. The levels Frindle reaches are crazy yet it is what makes it such a good story.

    This is a fun read. My favorite part about this book is that it advocates for taking the things one learns in a classroom and extending them out to make real change. This is the kind of thing that all teachers hope that their students would do. I also love that, even after Nick gets sick of all the attention his creation of "Friendle" gets him, he never loses who he is and he goes on to make even m/ore changes. I also really enjoyed that the illustrator of this book is Brian Selznick, the author and illustrator of Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck. I do wish that there was a bit more dialogue throughout the book to add more depth to the characters, however, this is a fun read that encourages students to think outside the box.

    Frindle is a fun novel that is creative and almost like a fable for the lesson it teachers. This book emphasizes the power that words have. The young boy Nick, change the name of a pen to the word “frindle.” It quickly catches on and all the students in school are using it. The characters in this story have the typical personalities that many young novels have. Nick is a young, rebellious boy that everyone thinks is “cool” for creating this new word. Mrs. Granger is a strict teacher that tries to crush the student’s dreams. These types of characters appeal to young readers for the dramatic controversy that occurs between them. In addition, I believe that the book pushes readers to realize how powerful young people can be and how strong words can be. Words are all around us. This book puts into perspective what type of words affect certain people. Overall, this novel is a great read and was engaging from start to finish.

    "Frindle", written by Andrew Clements is a very clever and silly book. This novel is about a young boy, Nick, who is deemed as a trouble maker at his school; him and his class decide to create their own word for pen and the school breaks into a frenzy about this new word. Clements perfectly brings you into the fun, silly atmosphere of Nick Allen through his writing. The headings of each chapter are in a kid-like font and the first sentence of each chapter starts with capital letters, which really captures your attention and brings you further into the story. I believe that the overall theme of this novel is that creativity is important and to not let others stop you from using your imagination.

    In my opinion, “Frindle” is an inspirational chapter book for children. The book is very interesting to read because it gives power to a young boy. This happens when he decides to invent his own word, “frindle,” as a synonym for “pen.” Nick’s teacher, principal, and school try to get him to stop using the word. However, it is soon out of the boy’s control as other people start to use the word. The word begins to be used by business owners and other people in his community. The writing throughout this book is very descriptive. For example, the writing is very descriptive when it explains how Mrs. Granger makes all the children stay after school for saying the word “frindle.” This causes a problem as bus drivers have to stay after school and work overtime. The principal becomes mad, and the parents begin to whine. Everyone in the community starts to use the word. This story broadens students’ perspectives in regards to how children can make a difference in the world. This story shows children that they can create something big. Towards the end of “Frindle,” Nick’s word becomes nationally recognized, and it gets put into the dictionary. His teacher confesses that she acted like she did not like the word so that it would become famous. Nick sends her a golden pen with her name on it. On the pen, it says that she can call it whatever she likes. The big idea is to teach children that they do have power and can create something big.

    I enjoyed reading Frindle by Andrew Clements, and I liked this chapter book for several reasons. First, the characters are realistic and relatable. The main character, Nick Allen is initially portrayed as a “troublemaker.” Having experienced being a student in grade school, and also from the perspective of an educator, I have noticed that there tends to be at least one mischievous student in each class. Nick is described in a brief, but appropriate manner when Clements describes him as “…a tall, thin, shirtless boy with chestnut hair…” Additionally, after looking at the cover art, and the black and white illustrations present throughout the book, I was able to identify Nick. It was helpful to have such a vivid image of the main character while reading. The story is written in third person language. This allows the reader to gain a variety of perspectives because it is not just a story told by one person. The book tends to be fixated on the fifth grade point of view, specifically Nick’s perspective, but during reading, I developed perspectives of the teacher, Mrs. Granger, Nick’s parents, and the school principal. The reason I really enjoyed Frindle is because determining the message of this book was a challenge. I feel that there is a lot to be gained from reading this book, but the big idea is to allow imagination and creativity to flourish.

    Frindle is about Nick, who is starting the fifth grade. He already knows his teacher Mrs.Granger is going to be tough. Her love fro dictionaries led to a simple question from Nick, who liked to distract the teacher to waste time, he wanted to know how the words in the dictionary were created. Upon learning they come from people he wanted to create his own word, frindle. His creation involved ups and downs for Nick while his classmates supported, it Mrs Granger did not. After many years frindle was as success and added to the dictionary. This story is inspirational for children. It shows that if you believe in something enough you can make it happen. Nick went against the mold and in the end it proved to be very successful. He was not only inventive in 5th grade but he was also successful in college.Would recommend for grades 3-5

    I like this book. For one, I like it because of how it is written. Because it is written as a young, school-aged boys, its audience can better relate to it (as it is intended for school-age children). I also like this book because of the sort of 'whimsy' to it. It is common for students in 2nd or 3rd grade to make up words, and by showing students that they can create their own word and can make it a part of everyday language, shows that students are able to make a difference and are able to make a change. The main idea of the story is just that, that even children can change something in the world.

    Summary:This is a book about a boy named Nick. He is always asking questions in class to avoid working. Once he finds out that different words can be made to mean the same thing, he is really interested. He decides to call a pen a frindle and the whole fifth grade class follows along with his new word. Mrs. Granger their teacher is not happy about it and forbids them from using it. It's too late because it is so catchy the whole school and community starts to use the word frindle. Reflection:This was a great book. It was funny and I felt like this could really happen in schools. It was a story where I think the characters can really come to live. I feel any 3rd thru 5th grader would enjoy this book. It will show them that not all things have to be boring and if they only continue to try things can really change and happen.

Wise Mrs. Granger initially punishes those who use the word and later encourages Nick with a copy of the dictionary which includes his new word. An engaging story for a short chapter book.

    In the fourth grade, Nick Allen talked his classmates into turning their classroom to a tropical island, complete with sand on the floor, but fifth grade's different. He has to deal with his teacher, Mrs. Granger.Nick discovers that the words we use were made popular by people and those same words are defined in the dictionary. He remembers as a baby he used words that are not in the dictionary, but his family knew what he meant. Through a series of events, he began to call an ink pen a frindle and before long the name takes off.Mrs. Granger wasn't happy about making up words and banned the new word. Thus began the war between student and teacher soon involving the town newspaper and eventually the national news.Does this commotion change the town, Mrs. Granger, or even Nick? Well, you'll have to read to book to see. I will tell you I smiled and wiped away a tear while reading the end.

    Nick is not a good kid or a bad kid or a really smart kid; Nick is an idea kid. He's also the best class interrupter in the whole school - until he gets to Mrs. Granger's 5th-grade language arts class. A simple question about the dictionaries that Mrs. Granger loves - meant to distract her from giving the night's homework - leads to an oral report by Nick on the history of the dictionary and how words are created. What at first seems like Nick's defeat soon leads to his best idea ever: He will create a word. Which is how Nick and his friends start calling their pens "frindles." Mrs. Granger refuses to accept the new word for pen, which has been quickly adopted by the entire 5th-grade class, fighting against the 5th graders every step of the way. Once the whole school gets involved though, Nick begins to realize that while he started the "frindle" movement, it's now far beyond his control.

    Lots of humor and an everykid main character makes this book highly enjoyable - although parts of the story feel smooshed together and Clements seems to do a lot more telling than showing. We hear how the story mushrooms from one news person to the next, but we don't actually see any of the national level attention. We hear that Nick goes on David Letterman, but we don't hear anything beyond that about his experiences traveling the talk show circuit and how missing school(as one would assume he must) affects his life there. Still, Frindle is a very interesting look at word origins that could inspire many curricular projects.

    Andrew Clements is coming to a conference in the spring, so I thought I ought to read some of his books before that happens. One of the books I chose to read is Frindle, a book about Nicholas Allen. Nick is a well-meaning 5th grader who has some ideas up his sleeve. When his teacher informs him that words are given meaning by two people agreeing, then he gets the idea to rename pens as "frindles." It catches on far more than he could have imagined.

    Fifth grader Nick has been making school a lot more fun since third grade. This year his teacher does not deal with unruly actions. He comes up with a wonderful idea. His best one yet. His going to make a new name for his pen. And that name is FRINDLE! He thought it would be funny to trick Mrs.Granger. All his fellow class members begin to use the word frindle and it even people around the country. his parents are Mrs.Granger and very upest with Nick. They want him to stop all of this but he can not now it is out of his control. This book is great to show children that you can do anything if you try hard enough.

    This was a joy to read, the story of a boy who has great ideas and the desire to see them through. Nick has, as many students do, a difficult teacher one year. Due to her love of words, and her insistence that students take responsibility for their education, Nick develops a scheme to get his class to start calling pens by the word frindle. It is a story that shows the power of language, the power of community, and the power of adversity.Easy to read, with simple words, but complex ideas.

    Great book! Frindle is a story that can be read over and over, because the story is both fun and unique. Clements uses language in a creative way in this story--the main character creates a new word for "pen" that becomes a national sensation. Frindle could be used to talk about language, or just for a fun and interesting read.

    After thinking about how words are first created, fifth grader Nick decides to create a new word for pen-- "Frindle." The word catches on with all the other students, much to the chagrin of tough fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Granger.The innovative plot and likable main character will keep kids turning the pages, especially those amused by the questioning of authority figures. Though the book lacks much suspense and unpredictability, readers will care enough about Nick to remain engaged throughout the book's 105 pages; the lack of suspense also makes Frindle a great choice for advanced younger readers. With the help of a handful of detailed pencil drawings by Brian Selznick scattered throughout the text, readers get a great sense of Nick, Lincoln Elementary School, and the town of Westfield. Recommended for all elementary libraries.

Molto è stato scritto sulle vicende del Monte Piana: dalle importanti testimonianze dei protagonisti dell’epoca - da parte italiana come da quella austriaca - fino agli studi dei giorni nostri, spesso ricchi di materiale documentale e fotografico prima inedito. Questo lavoro non intende sovrapporsi ai precedenti bensì ricomprendere e, se si vuole, integrare la narrazione degli avvenimenti con elementi atti a consentire da parte del lettore una comprensione ed una visualizzazione degli scenari anche tramite inserti iconografici relativi all’uniformologia, agli armamenti, alle produzioni commemorative dei reparti impiegati nel settore. Una sezione, in appendice, è inoltre dedicata all’illustrazione di possibili itinerari escursionistici sui luoghi delle battaglie. Ma soprattutto la ricerca si è focalizzata su coloro che hanno lasciato il segno della propria vita, talvolta per fatalità, quasi sempre per coraggio. Nei resoconti, salvo eccezioni, questi sono stati espressi in forma di numeri o semplici statistiche, magari con un laconico …dodici caduti nell’azione… o similia. In questo senso è sembrato doveroso riportare con la maggiore accuratezza possibile l’intero compendio nominativo dei caduti e dei decorati italiani, nozioni queste probabilmente inedite nella letteratura precedente. Tre anni di aspro confronto, violento quanto appassionato - che ha logorato le parti in un teatro praticamente immobile - non sono bastati al Regio Esercito, malgrado i ripetuti tentativi, per conquistare le posizioni più importanti saldamente mantenute dagli austroungarici, posizioni da cui procedere per il pregnosticato avanzamento in Pusteria e nel territorio avversario. Non sarebbe nobile negare quanto l’azione difensiva austriaca sia stata efficace rispetto ai conati degli italiani, che pure potevano contare sulla superiorità sia in termini numerici che di mezzi. All’eroismo italico, al di là dell’esito, andrebbe dunque affiancato quello degli imperiali, auspicando che da anche quel versante possa un giorno essere prodotto un nuovo lavoro atto a commemorare ciascun uomo che abbia contribuito alla difesa della propria Patria. Si lasci agli studiosi di arte militare l’analisi sottile delle motivazioni strategiche, tattiche, psicologiche e quant’altro possa spiegare il sostanziale insuccesso italiano. In questa sede, oltre a riportare dettagliatamente quanto doverosamente gli eventi occorsi, è stato ritenuto fondamentale, come già affermato, contribuire alla conservazione della memoria di coloro che non sono più tornati da quel ‘maledetto’ monte.

Per la realizzazione di questo lavoro molto si deve alla disponibilità di collaboratori e studiosi che hanno contribuito alla ricerca ed alla fornitura di materiale, talvolta di difficile reperimento. Il Monte Pianto, così i combattenti italiani e austriaci chiamavano Monte Piana, è un rilievo che sembra il figlio di un Dio minore rispetto alle cime dolomitiche che lo circondano. La sua particolare morfologia e collocazione lo rendono però una terrazza a 360 gradi, un belvedere naturale e, per questo, fino al 1915 era conosciuto.
