    Justification

Justification is God's declaration by which our condition changes from a state of sin to a state of righteousness. God imputes the righteousness of Christ to the sinner and the injustice of the sinner to Jesus on the cross.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

Justification is a gift, given by God, based on the redemption of Christ Jesus who freed us from sin.

Romans 3:23-24 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

In this New Year, let us make a commitment to begin a stronger relationship with the Lord. I have faith that in this New Year, by reading and meditating on the Scriptures, those who do not know God can begin a relationship with Him and those who do know Him can deepen their relationship. God always has something to tell us, so let us take the dust off our Bible and begin to read it and especially meditate on it so that we can receive the revelation that gives us direction. The Bible is a message from God expressing love to us. It is a one-of-a-kind book. God inspired the authors to write it under the influence of the Holy Spirit. No other book compares to it in the world. It is important for a Christian to study the Bible regularly; it is God's desire that we listen to what He has to say, that we dig deep into His Word to find instructions, to get answers to all questions about our daily lives, and to find the true purpose of human existence. The Bible is able to reach into the deepest part of our being to show us what areas of our lives need improvement in order to become more and more like Christ.

Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Let us make man in our image

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

God created the world by the power of His Word. At the end of His creation, God formed man differently from the rest of His creations. He created man to have dominion over other living creatures and over the whole of creation. Man is the result of the dust of the ground, a vessel into which God breathed a breath of life, transforming him into a living being. God created man in His image and likeness and endowed him with qualities superior to those of other living beings; He created him with will, emotions, spiritual faculties, and a moral nature. God imbued human beings with His attributes of love, holiness, and justice. Man was created to live in God's presence, to have fellowship with Him. The main purpose for which God created man is to exercise dominion as His representative over all creation. We are meant to serve God's purposes so that His kingdom can advance

Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the Lord against Israel. Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him:

    The tree of the knowledge

Genesis 2:16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

God clearly commanded Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because the day he ate of it, he would surely die. Through this commandment, God wanted to tell Adam that he would only be able to experience life if he obeyed His word. God gave man free will, that is, the ability to make decisions; Adam had a choice: life or death. God, even today, gives humankind full freedom to love Him or not; God does not force anyone; obedience is a way of showing love. Adam's disobedience passed on the sinful nature to all his descendants. The Lord is pleased when we obey His Word. Disobedience is considered rebellion against God's commandments, in 1 Samuel 15:23 we read that for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Practicing rebellion against God is considered as sinful as witchcraft. The best way to obey God is to preach the gospel to as many people as possible, as Jesus commanded us: Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations

John 14:15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.

    You will not surely die

Genesis 3:1-5 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field, which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’? And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

The serpent spoken of in these verses represents Lucifer, the most beautiful of the angels, who was cast out of heaven because of his excessive pride and desire to excel God. Satan once again used his own sin of pride to distort God's Word and question God's integrity in order to cause Eve to disobey and doubt the truth. The serpent told Eve that if she ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, from which God had forbidden her to eat, she would not die, but by knowing good and evil, she would become wise as God. They are the means that the devil continues to use to sow doubt in our hearts, to tell us that if we do not obey God, we are free to do whatever we want, without showing us the consequences of our supposed freedom that make our lives unhappy.

Isaiah 14:12-15 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God ;I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,To the lowest depths of the Pit.

    They were naked

Genesis 3:7-11 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? So he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself. And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?

God habitually appeared to Adam and Eve, but this time their encounter with God was different in that having chosen to listen to Satan they were no longer clothed in God's glory. Now Adam and Eve know something that they did not know before: a change had taken place within them that caused them to be ashamed, for having lost the glory of God, they discovered that they were naked. Adam and Eve when they heard God approaching, because of shame at their nakedness tried to cover themselves with fig leaves and hid among the trees in the garden. Before their rebellion against God, there was no shame. Their disobedience produced the breakdown of fellowship between man and God. Adam and Eve's behavior teaches us that sin brings in us shame, isolates us, makes us feel inadequate but God just as he provided skin tunics to cover Adam and Eve's shame provided a solution to our shame: Jesus

Genesis 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

    January 7

    Slave to Satan

Genesis 3:21 Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them

Disobedience to God made Adam a slave to Satan. Adam's spirit because of his transgression was dead. Adam's attempt to cover his and Eve's sin with fig leaves was unable to hide their guilt. The only way to cover Adam and Eve's sin was through the shedding of innocent blood. God killed an innocent animal and created clothes of skins for Adam and Eve. The sacrifice of this innocent animal, prefigures the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, and symbolizes the necessity of the shed blood for the redemption of sin, the salvation offered to us through Jesus Christ. All this makes us realize that whatever work we do and want to clothe ourselves with is a futile attempt to reconcile ourselves with God. It is only by God's grace that we are saved from sin through faith in Jesus Christ. It is only because of the mercy of God that we are redeemed.

Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

    Noah found grace

Genesis 6:5-8 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

Adam and Eve's disobedience led to the breakdown of the relationship between man and God. Sin continued to spread from generation to generation to all humankind. God seeing sin rampant regretted creating man, but found Noah, a righteous man obedient to God's commands who by faith built an ark to preserve himself and his family. Noah was not only a man of faith but also a preacher of righteousness, that is, he tried to convince sinners to get on the ark to give them a chance to repent and be saved: unfortunately, his preaching went unheeded. Our only hope for not incurring God's wrath is Jesus, who died on the cross to take on our sins and gain victory over sin through resurrection. God sent the flood to judge the world oppressed by sin. The flood of Noah's days symbolized God's impending judgment. Just as in Noah's day, so many people ignored the call to repentance and suffered judgment so it will be in our day for those who do not understand the need for a Savior.

Matthew 24:37-39 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh

Exodus 3:11 But Moses said to God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?

Moses was a man called by God when he was eighty years old. He was to deliver his people and lead the Israelites from captivity in Egypt to salvation in the Promised Land.At first he answered God's call with Here I am, but later he made excuses for not doing what God had commanded. Today God addresses the same call to each of His children, not to deliver them from physical slavery, but from the slavery of sin. We often find excuses like Moses, whose first objection to God's call was to say, who am I? Moses saw himself as a simple shepherd, but God saw him as someone capable of performing this task. Forty years earlier, Moses understood the uneasiness of the Hebrews and took the initiative to kill an Egyptian in order to save his people, thinking that his compatriots would understand that God was offering them salvation through him, but they did not understand and he had to flee. God wanted to use Moses to save the Israelites but it was not yet God's time. It is not enough to do God's will; one must also respect His times. In the forty years from the killing of the Egyptian to God's call, Moses had time to mature and transform his impetuous and impulsive character into the meek and simple character of the shepherd of Midian to become an instrument God could use. When God calls us He knows what He is doing, we do not look at our weakness, we answer Here I am, we are not alone, God is with us to equip and sustain us in the call.

Exodus 4:10-13 Then Moses said to the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue. So the Lord said to him, Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say. But he said, O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.

    Atoning Sacrifice

Leviticus 16:21-22 Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.

These verses describe the Day of Atonement, the one day during the year when the High Priest would enter the Most Holy Place to offer a sacrifice of atonement for sins. The Priest would take two goats, one of which would be sacrificed and on the head of the other would place his hands confessing the sins and transgressions of the people. Through this ritual, the sins of the people were transferred onto the head of the goat, which was then released and sent into the wilderness, destined for certain death, taking the sins with it. This Old Testament ritual was only for the purpose of covering sins not removing them, now there is no need for a scapegoat the price for our sins was paid by Jesus .The blood that Jesus shed on the cross ,established a complete sacrifice not only covered the sins he also atoned for them. God does not remember the sins we committed before Jesus became our Lord and Savior. The only requirement to obtain remission of sins is to put our faith in Christ's sacrifice and not to trust in ourselves.

Psalms 103:8-13 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children so the Lord pities those who fear Him.

The life of every living being is its blood

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’

The Bible tells us that the life of every living being is its blood, from which we deduce that blood is something valuable since a living being without blood dies. Offering a sacrifice meant giving something of value in exchange for sins committed. The first sacrifice was the one God made for the skin tunics used to cover the sin of Adam and Eve. All the sacrifices described in the Old Testament are but a shadow of Christ's sacrifice to make man understand that without sacrifice, without shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. The shed blood allowed the sinner who sacrificed the animals to be restored to fellowship with God through atonement, that is, the covering of sin, but only temporarily, and the sacrifice had to be repeated. The animal died in the sinner's place, but when Christ's sacrifice took place, it was sufficient for the forgiveness of our sins. We simply have to have faith in that sacrifice to obtain the forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 10:1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.

January 12 God is not a man that He should lie

Number 23:19 "God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do?

These verses tell us about God's immutability and encourage us to trust His Word. We can be confident that what God says, He does. God is always faithful to His Word, we can put our hope in Him with absolute assurance that He will keep what He has promised. We men are fallible, we break promises, we distort the truth, and we tell lies. God's faithfulness guarantees promises to His people. When God says something, He carries it out. God is not fickle in His promises. God's greatest promise to us is eternal life when we put our faith in Christ. Eternal life does not begin when we die but the moment we give our hearts to Christ with the assurance, that Jesus' work on the cross will lead us to spend eternity with Him. Eternal life is not just a continuation of our earthly existence, but a new and glorious life in the presence of God. When we are in trouble, we put everything into God's hands, knowing that God is faithful and will help us in our time of need.

Isaiah 25:1 O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

    Do not be afraid

Deuteronomy 31:6. Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you."

These verses contain the promise of God's abiding presence, but they are also an exhortation to trust and obey Him. This is a promise made to the people of Israel, but it applies to all believers. We believers are encouraged to trust in God and His promises, knowing that He will never leave us. So many difficulties in the world are a source of weakness. As believers, we are called to have strength and courage, not because of our abilities, but because of the knowledge, that God is with us. We have nothing to fear; we only need to trust in God, the only one in whom we can find refuge and strength. Only when we believe in God and obey His will can we be strong and courageous. Fear, weakness, are the consequences of sin, but if we are in Christ, we must manifest the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Fear is the opposite of faith, to wallow in fear is to deny God's power, God's ability to intervene in the negative circumstances we face in our daily lives. When we focus on God's presence in our lives, a protective shield surrounds us, because we have entrusted all our fears to Him, knowing that He will work for our good.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

    The Book of the Law

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

This verse encourages us to meditate on the Bible, not just to read it but above to immerse ourselves in it. Meditating on the Bible means reflecting on what we read so that God's Word penetrates deeply into our minds so that we can draw lessons to apply in all the circumstances of daily life, knowing that we will receive instructions for a wise and successful life. God desires to fill our hearts with His Word to open our minds to the knowledge of the truth. God wants to be the engine of our existence. When we meditate on God's Word, we begin to see things from God's perspective. We learn that with God we can do all things, for with Him nothing is impossible.

Psalms 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Do not look at his appearance

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

When Samuel chose Saul to be anointed king, he was impressed by his good looks, but he proved to be a disappointment. When Samuel had to choose Saul's successor, he used the same selection technique. Samuel looked at David's brothers to see who had a kingly presence, but God rejected them all in favor of David, who was not even highly regarded by his father, showing that God looks at our hearts. Even Satan was outwardly an angel of light, but he had an evil heart. God is not concerned with our outward appearance, but with how we are on the inside. Our beauty should not come from obsessively caring for our physical appearance; this does not mean neglecting ourselves. God wants us to care more about our spirit than our appearance. Unfortunately, we live in a society that values appearances and where people are judged superficially without getting to the true essence. We are called to look beyond appearances that can deceive us. God is pleased with those who do His will.

1 Peter 3:3-4 Do not let your adornment be merely outward arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

    January 16

    Blessed is the man

Psalms 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

If we do not accept Jesus and follow His teachings as written in the Bible, we won't experience the peace that only God can give. The world pushes us toward a lifestyle that, when compared with God's Word, highlights how wrong our behaviors are. Unfortunately, we often have a Bible but never read it or read it out of a sense of duty; we are called to find joy in God's Word because through it we will find nourishment for our lives.

Life without God's Word is barren and devoid of spiritual blessings, but if we immerse ourselves in it, we will be able to prosper even in difficult times because we will have a solid foundation.

Colossians 3:16-17 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

    January 17

The way of the ungodly shall perish

Psalms 1:4-6 The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

The Lord offers us two ways, one is the way of the righteous, which produces fruit, given by the instruction given by the Lord through the Scriptures, and the other is the way of the wicked, which produces death, unhappiness. It is up to us to choose which way to follow. The only possible choice to get out of the sin trap is, Christ, to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and our Savior, to submit ourselves to Him as Lord of our lives and to turn away from our sins. God desires a relationship with us, wants the barrier that has been created between God and us because of sin to be broken. The only means of bridging the gap is through Christ's death and resurrection so that God's Spirit can come and dwell in us and be filled with the blessings, because there can never be prosperity in the lives, of the wicked, of those who do not follow God's ways. The only foundation on which to build is Christ. The things of the world have no value are easily destroyed.

1 Corinthians 3:9-15 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

    January 18

    The Lord is a shield

Psalms 3:3-5 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.

When we have God in our lives, we are not only protected in what we do according to His Word, but we are also filled with blessings. God always intervenes to save His children; we must involve Him in our circumstances so that He can create a protective shield around us so that nothing can harm us. All we have to do is cling to our faith to fend off the attacks that life throws at us, , knowing that God is watching over us, and the moment we call on His name, He will bring us out of the difficult times we are going through and we can lift our heads and begin to rejoice. If faith in God's protection worked for David, the writer of the Psalm, who covered his head and wept when his son Absalom rebelled against him, it will work for us. We just need to activate our faith in God and it will work.

Job 1:8-12 Then the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? So Satan answered the Lord and said, Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face! And the Lord said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person. So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

    January 19

    The Lord sustains me

Psalms 3:5 -6 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

Although David had a burdened state of mind because of the difficulties he was experiencing with the people of Israel who were rebelling against him, he fell into a deep sleep because David knew that God was his shield and he had the assurance that all would be well. When things are not going well, the only support, the only source of energy we can draw from is God. The only reason we wake up in the morning is that God is always by our side, He has kept us through the night, made us sleep soundly, without nightmares that could take away our peace during the day.
