Gli haiku contenuti in questo libro evocano l'anima di Roma, fatta di storia, bellezza, grandiosità, eternità, spesso in contraddizione con le problematiche della modernità come povertà, traffico, incuria, incomunicabilità tra le persone.

Tuttavia noi uomini siamo solo esseri in transito, comuni mortali di una Città Eterna, che non finirà mai di vivere.

Chi ha già visitato Roma potrà, attraverso questi versi rievocare preziosi ricordi. Chi non ne ha ancora avuto l'opportunità, avrà la possibilità di preparare i propri sensi ad un viaggio indimenticabile.

The city of Rome, seen in its contradictions throughout history and current events: timeless beauties coexisting with today's problems, such as poverty, traffic, neglect and lack of communication between people. However, we acquire the awareness that we are just temporary while Rome is an Eternal City that will never cease to live with its grandiose testimonies of the past. I thought this could be expressed more immediately with haiku, e ancient poems originating in Japan in just three lines. Realizing an haiku requires not only to do a job of counting syllables but is also necessary to give a space-time location to the moods that follow one another while living in Rome or visiting it as a tourist.

This book, started almost by chance, has gradually reached its own dignity of content and images with the addition of new haiku. The result is surprising for me because I had never used this mode of expression before. In the second part entitled In haiku veritas I wanted to highlight all those Roman curiosities that are poetically touched upon the haiku.

La città di Roma vista nelle sue contraddizioni e nell’avvicendarsi di storia ed attualità: le sue bellezze convivono con le problematiche odierne come la povertà, il traffico, l’incuria e l’incomunicabilità tra le persone. Si acquisisce però la coscienza che siamo solo esseri in transito, comuni mortali di una Città Eterna, che non finirà mai di vivere con le sue grandiose testimonianze del passato. Ho pensato che tutto questo potesse essere espresso in maniera più immediata con degli haiku, antichissimi componimenti originari del Giappone in tre soli versi. Per realizzarli non basta fare un lavoro certosino di conta delle sillabe ma riuscire a dare una collocazione spazio-temporale agli stati d’animo che si susseguono vivendo a Roma o visitandola come un turista. Questo libro, iniziato quasi per caso, ha raggiunto una propria dignità di contenuti ed immagini man mano che si andavano ad inserire nuovi haiku: il risultato è per me sorprendente perché non avevo mai utilizzato questa modalità di composizione. Nella seconda parte intitolata In haiku veritas ho voluto mettere in risalto tutte quelle curiosità romane che sono poeticamente sfiorate negli haiku.

A sigh of wonder when the beauties of the past and the contradictory pulse of today’s life meet. Despite the many problems that plague the Eternal City, this small but precious book manages to capture the charm of the city that resides not only in the great monuments but also and above all in the alleys, in the small things or in the slow flow of the Tiber. The brevity of the haiku combined with the very personal style of the author have the ability to arouse fantasies, delicate feelings and the malancholy, daughter of the poverty and neglect that affect the Italian capital. The gaze that the poet dedicates even in the smallest things conquers and excites. The second parte entitled In haiku veritas represents a precious source of Roman curiosities, some of them not so well known outside the Urbe, and gives this work a very
